It’s unfortunate because attacking with just melee weapons isn’t always a viable option, but I was forced to do so in a few battles, which really made them a slog. Some boss battles pit you against enemies that are so fast it’s almost impossible to lock on, and many of these same boss battles handicap you with a severe shortage of ammo. While the base combat is incredibly strong, and it runs without a hitch, there are times where things can get a little frustrating. Luckily, your main way of getting new weapons is to loot Arsenals you shoot down, so there’s a natural kind of progression. There’s a breakneck speed to Daemon X Machina’s combat, and the game uses an adaptive lock-on system to help with this, instantly locking onto nearby enemies without the player actually having to hit a button.įighting random AI enemies is fine, but things get really exciting when you take on other Arsenals, which the story and multiplayer do constantly.Ĭombat gets deeper the more you learn and understand, as well as the more equipment and weapons you get. The other use for Femto is to summon a Mirage by pressing down the right stick, which creates a full AI double of your Arsenal that will attack enemies on its own. You Arm to increase weapon damage, Wing to boost your speed and boost, or Shield to help protect yourself from damage. Those abilities are channeling Femto into different parts of your mech to increase its performance, by pressing up or down on the d-pad. VP is your Arsenal’s health, Stamina manages your boosting, and a Femto gauge lets you use special abilities. On top of all your different weapons, you have multiple gauges to manage. Like everything else in the game you can fine-tune your control scheme to whatever you want it to be. Your arsenal can move on the ground and in the air, and you can boost at high-speed using the right bumper, at least in the default controls. Weapons, on the other hand, have you bringing in an assortment of tools like assault rifles, grenades, missile launchers, cannons, laser swords, and much, much more. You can equip different heads, arms, legs, torsos, processors and more for armor. The crux of the game has you building your own mech, called an Arsenal, piecing it together from different armor pieces and weapons. Just like with the story, Daemon X Machina’s gameplay throws you right into the deep end as well. The game also introduces a wealth of characters who all work for different mercenary groups, and it’s constantly a struggle to figure out who has good intentions and who has bad ones, although I suspect that’s part of the point. It’s honestly baffling that there isn’t some kind of database feature implemented. However, there’s a lot more context and development layered on as your progress through the game.Īt the same time, though, Daemon X Machina is a game that could have really benefited from a glossary detailing different ideas, characters, organizations, and more. However, I'm about 500 hours in on Switch, so I still play my Switch version much more. The story feels ultra bare-bones at the start of the game, and the game doesn’t do a great job of explaining different areas, groups, and ideas. It will almost certainly have a longer lifespan and more players given the platform's exposure. If I were starting from scratch and deciding based on which version had more native perks, I would choose Steam offhand. Switch obviously doesn't have that particular problem. Word in the sub is that Steam has more players currently - BUT - the script editors have already cracked DxM, so ranked VS is rife with script cheesers on Steam. I don't play much online, so I can't speak to playerbase size. Obviously this isn't an issue if you stick with controller, but I think most players would prefer KBM where available. Some users have reported a mouse-sensitivity issue related to frame rate. Since it's a port, there are some conversion artifacts. Switch doesn't natively have good chat options I believe Steam does. ![]() Steam/PC also supports KBM, which Switch obviously does not. My PC is circa 2013 (quite old and well below recommended spec) and runs the game much more smoothly than Switch. ![]() Steam/PC will run smoother if your machine is at all competent. Just my take as an owner of both versions: ![]() It's Joshua 1:9 which says, in part, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. He has one of his favorite bible verses tattooed on his chest. He wears his father’s crematory tag on a chain around his neck. Just knowing they are in a better place now and you still have to live your life as well.” “At the end of the day, you just have to remember the impact they have had on my life, what they have taught me and how I will keep that as long as I live. This time, Vula from Basement Jaxx fame stepped up to provide the stunning vocal line and the track was once again universally acclaimed, once again scoring top-end BBC Radio 1 support from Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Danny Howard and Toddla T. Accompanying the tour, the duo released their second collaborative single ‘Live My Life’ (the follow-up to ‘We Found a Place’ on MTA). Josh continued his positive momentum into 2015 by announcing a special back2back tour with Bontan. This led to Josh winning DJ Mag’s coveted Best of British award for ‘Best Breakthrough Producer’ (seeing off competition from the likes of Dense and Pika, Leon Vynehall and Marquis Hawkes) to cap what had already been a monumental year. Not one to rest on his laurels, Josh soon followed up with a series of EP's on Hector Couto’s Roush, Green Velvet’s illustrious Cajual Records and Noir Music. Josh’s new found recognition naturally led to a multitude of labels showing interest in his work, one of which was Kerri Chandler’s highly respected MadTech who, at the start of 2014a released the acclaimed ‘No Frills’ EP to great effect and sustained Josh’s charge towards setting a new precedent in underground house. The industry cocked an ear, the don Pete Tong gave his seal of approval on the BBC airwaves and Josh was subsequently invited to do an Afterhours Mix for his Radio 1 show. ![]() ‘Got A Feeling’ not only struck a chord with key industry players but also went on to become one of Beatport’s biggest selling tracks that year, later earning Josh a coveted Beatport Award to boot. In retrospect, the track invariably proved to be Josh’s breakout into the industry’s field of vision, racking up remix duties from Ben Pearce, long-term friend and collaborator Bontan plus Pleasurekraft along the way. ![]() Several industry awards later (DJ Mag Award 2014 and Beatport Award 2014) and with frequent support from industry players such as Joris Voorn, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Kerri Chandler, Steve Lawler, Heidi and Noir all to his name, Josh continues to rise through the ranks of house music.Īt the dawn of 2013, there was no intention of a global explosion behind Josh’s stripped back ‘Got A Feeling’ debut for Chase and Status’ renowned MTA imprint.
